The Black Rat in Winchester is a charming Michelin Star restaurant, serving seasonal, quality produce, while the 17th century The Bush Inn in Alresford offers a serene country setting on the banks of the River Itchen. Stop off at Bacaro in Southampton for a selection of delicious Italian and Mediterranean food throughout the week or their renowned Sunday roast for a cosy end to the weekend.
If you’d like to pick up your own fresh produce, head to Camber Quay in Old Portsmouth for mussels and clams fresh off the boat or popular Sunnyfields Farm in Totton for a varied range of fruits, vegetables and herbs.
Open spaces
You can get up close to nature in Hampshire with plenty of green spaces and coastline to venture to. Take a trip to Lepe Country Park in Beaulieu for delightful views of the Isle of Wight or Queen Elizabeth Country Park in Horndean which is a mecca for walkers and cyclists.
The New Forest National Park is home to an abundance of great trails, perfect for hikers, campers and nature lovers alike. We personally love the idyllic Tall Trees Trail which takes you on a journey passing towering trees from all over the world!

From paying a visit to see the wildlife at Marwell Zoo on the outskirts of Winchester to sampling premium dry gin at the Bombay Sapphire Distillery in Whitchurch, you’ll find plenty to do to keep the whole family entertained.
Kids will love a trip Paultons Park, while adults can enjoy visits to Mayflower Theatre in Southampton and popular annual festivals like Victorious which is held on Southsea Common every summer. Keen golfers are also spoilt for choice with some top quality courses dotted around the county.
During the festive season, Winchester’s famous, picture-perfect Christmas Market takes up residency in the cathedral grounds with an ice rink surrounded by delightful independent stalls. Down the road in Southampton, the German-themed Christmas market features over 40 chalets selling unique gifts and traditional German fayre every year.
Shopping
Hampshire is home to city centre shopping malls, out of town centres and premium outlets, meaning you’re bound to find somewhere to splash the cash.
You’ll find a winning combination of high street brands and independent boutiques at West Quay in Southampton and Festival Place in Basingstoke, whilst Gunwharf Quays can help you dig out some great deals at big designer outlets. Head to the historic market towns of Winchester, Alresford or Stockbridge for something a little quieter, and make a quick pit stop at one of any number of award-winning cafés and coffee shops to get your caffeine fix.
